Week 2

And then there were two. It’s a mirror image of the last three years of league play. Two teams are left standing after 2 weeks of ball. Teams with 2-0 records to start a season have occurred 10 times. That is a whopping 55.55% of the time. Going back in time to see how many teams hoisted the NAFL Championship Cup after starting 2-0 is shocking. Only one team out of 20 teams claimed the Championship which was BOUT that ACTION in 2011. Maybe a new team can add their name to that list in January. Kickers Rule and Fireball are currently 2-0. What a difference from last year. Both teams were sitting at or near the bottom of the standings last year. Both teams earned their 2nd win of the season in different ways. Top seed Kickers Rule moved up two spots in the Power Rankings with their wire-to-wire victory. Fireball trailed the entire game in their Week 2 match-up. Matthew Stafford pulled their fat out of the fire to record their 2nd straight win of the season. Week 2 was a week of firsts for the rest of the league. Team Squizard collected their first win of the young season. BYE WEEK coasted to their first win of the season. Both teams won with relative ease. The last winner of the day earned their first win of the season under a Yahoo Sports Correction. The P.E.I. Skin Pigs upended the Scorpions on a -0.20 point deduction giving the Skin Pigs the victory instead of the Scorpions. That goes to show it is never over until it is over. Fireball vs Hog’s Hawgs

The Fireball vs Hog’s Hawgs match-up was one of two that ended in a come-from-behind victory. The Hawgs never trailed for four straight quarters as they were seeking win number two. The Hawgs put up monster stats in the 2nd quarter, leading all teams in scoring with 11.49 points. Jalen Hurts led the way with 2.84 for the Hog’s Hawgs. The Hawgs enjoyed the largest lead of the game with 5.92 points. But the Hawgs had to use a lot of starters to get to 11.49 points. Would that come back to bite them at the end of the game? Fireball played a solid game from the start of the 2nd quarter. The 2nd quarter was their best scoring quarter of the day. And it would mark the end of them losing another quarter to the Hog’s Hawgs. They chipped away at the Hawgs’ lead for two quarters. Trailing by 0.88 points, Fireball started Matthew Stafford. Stafford tossed for 4.98 points, giving Fireball the comeback victory.

Team Squizard vs Goch_Deep

Goch_Deep ran up against a buzz saw last week. Team Squizard was upended by the Hog’s Hawgs last week. The Hawgs came from behind to beat Team Squizard. T-Squizzy never trailed in this game picking up their first win of the season. The only bright spot for Goch_Deep was the 2nd quarter. They outpaced Team Squizard by 2.30 points. Team Squizard tallied a league high 24.09 points to earn the Week 2 Direct-TV High Score Award. The 24 points scored by T-Squizzy is a team record in a Week 2 game.

BYE WEEK vs G.E.T. S.O.M.E.

The Champ took it on the chin last week. Not sure what happened, but G.E.T. S.O.M.E. could not get their offense on track scoring their lowest total in a Week 2 matchup. They would hold a brief lead in the first quarter. BYE WEEK quickly erased the lead in the very next quarter. They would not look back for the next 4 quarters of play. BYE WEEK increased their lead in every quarter. They were the only team to complete that feat last week. BYE WEEK collected their first win of the season. Congrats Jr. BYE WEEK is the winner of the Week 2 Toyota Tundra Biggest Blowout Award with a winning margin of 8.23 points. They are ranked 10th all-time.

Kickers Rule vs Uncrowned Champ

Kickers Rule is experiencing a resurgence in prominence. They sit on top of the standings with a mark of 2-0-0. Kickers Rule put their 3rd-ranked offense to good use as they earned a wire-to-wire win over the Uncrowned Champ. UC could not get their offense clicking last week against Kickers Rule. Caleb Williams left the game early due to an injury which severely hampered UC’s chances of winning the game. Kickers Rule is in 1st place for the first time since week 6 of 2022.

P.E.I. Skin Pigs vs Scorpions

Wow, there is a lot to unpack in the P.E.I. Skin Pigs vs Scorpions matchup. It was the best game of the week, with the lead changing hands four times before the Skin Pigs were declared the winner. The Scorpions came to play as they would cruise to an early 2nd quarter lead. The turning point of the game came in the 3rd quarter. The Skin Pigs erased the deficit by going on a 9.47 to 5.60 run. That would be the key to the game. The Scorpions recaptured the lead for good in the 4th quarter to ice the game. But wait one minute. Thursday’s corrections came and went. Yahoo Sport deducted 0.20 from the Scorpions’ winning total pushing their total under the Skin Pigs’ final tally. The Skin Pigs won the game and earned a comeback victory as well. They are the winners of the Gillette ProGlide Razor Thin Award for Week 2. The P.E.I. Skin Pigs are tied with Goch_Deep for 5th place with 21 Razor Thin Awards.
